Let’s face it you are going to have people you don’t know, going through your house, when you aren’t there, when you put your house on the market. Granted you could stay there while they viewed your property. But this almost guarantees you won’t get any serious offers. While this can be very uncomfortable there is a way to protect yourself, your valuables, and your family. Here are 3 tips to remember when listing your home for sell.
Hide your valuables safely
When showing your home, for safety’s sake, remember to remove keys, credit cards, jewelry, and any other valuables from the home during the listing period or at least during showings. Also consider removing or hiding prescription drugs. Some seemingly honest people wouldn’t think twice about getting their hands on any of these items
Put away all your personal information items
I know this one seems a little extreme. But with the world we live in. You need to do this. Don’t leave mail or bills out in the open where anyone can see it. Be sure to lockdown your computer, laptop, tablet and/or any other expensive electronic devices prior to your showings.
Lock the door
This should already be a habit. But when leaving your home so that it can be shown, make sure all doors, and windows are locked. Other agents will be able to access the property through the lockbox. You don’t want any unwanted visitors entering the property without proper accessibility.\
